Some of the projects and activities you can participate in include Drupella snail and crown of thorns collection dives, ‘dive against debris’ reef clean ups, mooring buoy prep and installation dives, Coral Watch and Discover Reef Check.
These projects and activities will help you to demonstrate your support for PADI’s efforts within aquatic conservation, an important part of any dive professionals day to day activities and a pre-requisite to become a Master Instructor.
You can also get involved with Clam Nursery Research, Coral Nursery Build and contributing to our very own artificial reef ‘Junkyard Reef’ which we have built and developed over the past 8 or so years.

What is an MI – Master Instructor?
A Master Instructor is the second highest rating as a Professional PADI Member in Recreational Scuba Diving. The credentials you will need to have in order to apply to become an MI are:
- PADI IDC Staff Instructor who has been a PADI Instructor for at least two years
- Emergency First Response Instructor
- Participated in at least three PADI Seminars
- Issued a minimum of 150 PADI certifications which include; at least 50 continuing education certifications, 15 Specialty Divers, 5 Rescue Divers and 5 Divemaster certifications.
- Issued 10 Emergency First Response course completion cards
- Certified either five Assistant Instructors or Staffed two entire IDCs.
The PADI Master Instructor rating is the prerequisite to becoming a PADI Course Director.
How will this rating help me to stand out as an Instructor?
Not only is the Master Instructor qualification necessary to become a PADI Course Director, it is a great indication of your experience within the dive industry.
For majority of PADI members, this rating can be difficult to achieve and by holding it you will be putting yourself in an elite category.
You will immediately stand out to future employers and other PADI members.
It allows you to showcase that you are a well-rounded instructor who has a strong understanding across multiple PADI programs.
You will be well versed in all the core PADI courses, specialty courses and pro-level training courses.
How soon should I start working towards the Master Instructor rating?
There is no time like the present and we believe that it is never to early to start progressing you career as a professional diver.
This rating is earned through hands on experience, gained by actively working as an Instructor.
Setting this goal for yourself will help to encourage your progress as a PADI Staff Instructor and give you an extra incentive for continuing education courses.
It is also a great reason to get more involved in pro-level training.
What is the benefit of earning the Master Instructor rating through an Internship?
There are some cases when a PADI member is able to earn this rating completely on their own. However, it can be extremely difficult and can depend on the area in which you are working.
Not every dive center offers Professional Level programs that would allow you to get the experience needed as an MI.
Some locations around the world specialize in fun diving with certified divers to the provision of Discover Scuba Diving experience programs.
This would make it difficult to build your certification counts, plus teach a wide variety of PADI courses.
The purposes for completing an internship is that we can offer you a platform that will allow you to gain all the necessary credentials needed to apply to become an MI.
We have two PADI Platinum Course Directors that will be working directly with you, and will help to mentor you through this process.
They can offer you support that goes beyond the minimum MI requirements.
How can I personalize the Master Instructor internship to help meet my personal goals?
The first thing we will look at when you join us, is your student counts. This will give us an idea on the areas in which you are lacking teaching experience.
At this point we can personalize a program that will help you to focus on your weaker areas.
We also discuss your reasons for completing the program, as this helps us to tailor a program to your individual needs.
Once we have an idea of what your expectations are, we devise a dedicated training schedule to fit your personal goals.
